Road to EXPO 2025

MS PORRIMA is going to be a Special Supporter for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.

The ship will return for the opening of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
On her Blue Voyage, MS PORRIMA is slated to visit five continents (Asia, Europe, Africa,North and South America) to share innovations with people. This is part of the TEAM EXPO 2025 Special Supporter program that aims to realize the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Learn about the wealth of the oceans!

Meet fascinating marine creatures and seaside communities

MS Porrima will be sailing the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans. Each ecosystem is a treasure trove of biodiversity. Thanks to this Blue Odyssey, everyone can learn about the fascinating natural wonders of the marine world. These include turtles that leave the Colombian coast to travel to Asia, and then return 15 years later to lay their eggs in the exact spot where they were born. Or the marvels of the pygmy sea horse, a resident of Tokyo Bay. We also discover the iridescent colors of the sea mouse, which never degrade in sunlight because this tiny creature has no color pigments. In each port, the Swiss MS Porrima will feature individuals who work in fishing, clean-up campaigns, and power generation. We will also celebrate seafood that respects the environment. It’s a rare opportunity to learn from the sea and imagine a sustainable future.

Learn about plastic pollution
and climate change; help to
keep oceans clean and sustainable

Pollution is destroying our oceans. If we don’t take action quickly, the amount of plastic waste in these waters will outnumber the population of fish by 2050 and leave a huge impact on the marine ecosystem. The oceans cover about 70% of planet Earth's surface and play an important role in absorbing CO2 and heat from the atmosphere. Let’s learn about the issues facing the ocean and look for solutions together. MS Porrima works with scientists to identify the solutions we can implement now.

MS Porrima: An experimental ship
for a sustainable future

We need innovations to help us face the daunting task of combatting climate change. Belgian economist and entrepreneur Gunter Pauli was the first person to advocate for a “Blue Economy.”He’s been coordinating with a team of scientists to develop solutions. They’ve worked on these issues since 1994 and have more than 200 projects that demonstrate a highly efficient and sustainable economic model that mimics natural ecosystems without producing any waste. This concept will produce breakthrough innovations that address the issues of poverty, environmental pollution, and renewable energy generation. MS Porrima will serve as a floating lab for innovation. Throughout its voyage, the ship will undergo numerous transformations as it works to fuse together the world's most advanced technologies. Get a peek into amazing ideas by entrepreneurs from around the world and let’s change the future together.

Learn with the leaders of the future!

Useful tools for environmental education

MS Porrima carries the “Tangible Earth,” the world's first interactive digital globe. It was developed by Kyoto University of Arts Professor TAKEMURA Shinichi and his colleagues. This beautiful and informative tool encourages global citizens to see and think from the perspective of the planet. Tangible Earth dynamically displays weather information in real time, the current status of global warming, the migration of birds and fish, and relevant facts and trends of our planet. Innovations such as this, along with images from MS Porrima, will be used to disseminate information that will help enhance environmental education. Additionally, interactions with children in the ports of call will help us think about the issues faced by the ocean and give us an opportunity to learn about the future of our Earth together, as seen and imagined by children.
