MS Porrima carries the “Tangible Earth,” the world's first interactive digital globe. It was developed by Kyoto University of Arts Professor TAKEMURA Shinichi and his colleagues. This beautiful and informative tool encourages global citizens to see and think from the perspective of the planet. Tangible Earth dynamically displays weather information in real time, the current status of global warming, the migration of birds and fish, and relevant facts and trends of our planet. Innovations such as this, along with images from MS Porrima, will be used to disseminate information that will help enhance environmental education. Additionally, interactions with children in the ports of call will help us think about the issues faced by the ocean and give us an opportunity to learn about the future of our Earth together, as seen and imagined by children.
